Nếp than ngâm với nước ấm vài giờ hoặc qua đêm. Sau đó, vo sạch nếp than.

Cho nếp than, 1.2 lít nước vào nồi, đun sôi. Dùng đũa đảo sơ để không bị khê. Hạ lửa nhỏ nhất ninh 5 phút, tắt bếp, để yên 15 phút. Sau 15 phút lại bật bếp, đun sôi. Hạ lửa nhỏ nhất ninh 5 phút, tắt bếp lại để yên 15 phút nữa.

Hòa tan bột năng với 60ml nước. Cho nước bột năng, đường trắng vào nồi chè nếp than, khuấy đều cho đường tan hết.

Cho nước cốt dừa vào túi bắt bông kem, để ngăn đá khoảng 15 phút.

Múc chè ra chén, vẽ nước cốt dừa lên trên. Khi ăn thêm đá bào.
